Ambient music is a genre of music, without lyrics. It is just pure music. It is a form of slow instrumental music, which is soothing to hear. It basically uses pure soothing music to create a musical atmosphere. You will feel the music just floating around you. Ambient music is as easy to focus on, as it is to ignore. It depends on the amount of attention you are paying to it. So unlike your regular music, this kind of music does not ask for attention. It creates an atmosphere of peace and calmness for the listener, a safe haven from the worldly troubles.

Ambient music floats in the air like a fog, creating a kind of acoustic tint that can be truly effective. It can greatly help in reducing stress. Each time you encounter a piece of ambient music, it shifts and alters ever so subtly as the sounds around you merge with it. Similarly, our capacities to listen and focus (or not focus) greatly affect our encounters with it. You see, as I mentioned before, ambient music can be easily ignored as it does not have any lyrics and is not attention-seeking. It is the sort of music that could be played during a dinner to create a background atmosphere for that activity, rather than serving as the focus of attention. It is this factor of ambient music, which helps the listener to increase his focus.
